Hello to everyone who reads this.
IMHO if you want the game to be better than at least help by voting in the polls. Statistics show that fewer and fewer people vote in these polls. Let us not just forget about this site but let us help the developers when they ask us to.
Some people may have forgotten that the polls change or you may have not voted in all of them yet so here is the link to all of them. Go check if you missed any. http://www.startrekonline.com/poll

I vote in the polls all the time.
I do as will but most of them I don't see how they would help the game

i don't know, some of these questions they ask, if they are trek fans, i'm pretty sure they can handle them.
the best bad guy in voyager? seriously? if borg isn't a choice, guess who comes in second? anybody?
sorry bro, just another nice thing to twiddle our thumbs with.
not that i'm hating here, i just think you are making the poll thing a lot more substantial then you think it to be.

I gotta say, thinking that they're going to be able to extrapolate anything from those polls, and actually use results from them as evidence that something should or shouldn't be in the game is very questionable. If they ever did, I know it would shake my confidence in Cryptic a great deal.

While I have voted in a couple of those, the one titled "Which STO system/feature are you most excited about?" is the only one that jumps to mind has having any real bearing on the game at hand.
Favorite movie? We know this game is taking place some 30 or 40 years after Nemesis. What purpose does knowing Wrath of Khan is 2nd to Insurrection? Doesn't tell them why people feel that way.
Same holds true for the favorite series. Doesn't tell them why so how would they gain any useful information about what elements to try and incorporate in the game?
The antagonists polls are slightly better imo only in that at least they could get a sense on the type of arch nemesis we find more intriguing to play against ... perhaps.
These seem like they're more "fun" polls than they are in any way a manner for the devs gathering useful information about a possible direction to take an aspect of the game.
Which is fine. Nothing against fun polls. I often participate in them. But, don't make them out to be more than they are until we start seeing more that are asking more specific questions game-wise rather than who's your favorite Vulcan.

Even though I think that the polls will have little influence on the game, I have voted in all of them regardless because I like expressing my opinion. It would be great if the developers would take the results of some of the polls into consideration though!

Judging for what people voted in the poll "Which STO system/feature are you most excited about?" seems this game could be based on "Buck Rogers" or the space version of "the need for speed" while it would have PVP and customizable ships and crews.

I wanted an 'All of the Above' option

Well if some of you think that their polls are not useful maybe you could make some suggestions in another thread I have opened already: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=10812

I seem to recall someone from cryptic saying in an interview that the polls were mostly for fun, not design direction. But I could be wrong.
I've wondered why they don't relate to the game specifically, too..

I don't think that they give any kind of representative sampling to indicate in which way any design direction decision should go.

Cryptic never has been much for Polls. They read the forums frequently, they take into account how players feel about a certain aspect of the game, and go from there. What they don't do is let Vocal minorities or Monday morning developers steer their projects. They have a Players should play games and developers should developer based and many things including but not only player feedback. Philosophy That's why I like playing Cryptic games.
by the way, there should be polls inside this forum, IF they really want an opinion, so you can vote AND write down the reason that lead to your decision (damn, i cant spell that word)..
ps: plus, the site is acting weird sometimes, cause it doesnt recognize me on the mainsite, but it does inside the forum o_O

I voted in a couple of polls but when I discovered I had to log-in everytime to vote I lost interest in voting. At least the forums remember me each time I visit.

No.
I reserve my right not to be "among the number", and would rather voice my opinioins separately and independently, expressly stating WHY I feel that way.
If you don't have the time or patience to read my posts about my opinions, then I have no time to vote in your silly "polls".

The curious thing is that over at their other game they have an entire section devoted to polls, with the ability for people to express why they take the position they do. Which I think is a good thing.
http://forums.champions-online.com/forumdisplay.php?f=17
As is very clear by some of the massive failures of some games where the developers took a very silly and backward "we design, you play" philosophy, if a company isn't willing to listen to different ideas, and willing to at least pay attention when people point out possible mistakes they're making, and trends they may have overlooked or misinterpreted, they're usually doomed to fail or never reach their potential.. ( SWG at release, Vanguard, TR, Shadowbane, AoC, etc etc anyone?)
After all, most developers started out as just being a gamer with opinions and ideas themselves.
