I usually just read forums and never post. I have been a life long fan of Star Trek. So far I think the computer graphics look good. The only thing that I feel negative about is the creative license that has been taken with the ships. I do not admire most of the new ship designs and alterations. For example, the extra bar between the two warps nacelles on the Sovereign class. I understand that the game is going to take place after Start Trek Nemesis so I should expect some ship changes and new designs. I write this not to criticize but to insure the game success.

I agree, I don't like the Rollbar either, but then, I have a feeling that is going to be a customization thing, so I am not really worried about it. No rollbars on my ships.

That's true. Any part you don't like on your ship can be easily swapped or torn out, so everyone can smooth out their least favorite parts of the class they want. Personally, I don't like that weird donut ship with the bars across the whole. It's just the weirdest saucer section I've seen, and doesn't make sense to me. But then I can just pick another ship and/or modify it.

Despite the impracticality of it all (heh, welcome to star trek) I rather like that design.
Nothing says lovin like cruising the galaxy in a giant peace sign.

The roller bar is kind of stupid. The random green circle things on the newest ship screenshot is stupid.
Basically they're like adding more unessessary details to the ships. Things that just aren't needed. Starfleet ships have never been overly detailed. Now they have glowy things, random crap going at random angles etc.
That said it's not tooo bad. It's not like Stargate Worlds Halo Armor but much more subdued. 8/10. Could be better but it's not bad. I just hope it doesn't get to ridiculous levels like spiky, ultra detailed, legendary epic rare nacelles that are basically comparable to the first armor you start with in WoW compared to the completely ridiculous looking end game gear.

while that ship with the "rollbar" is generally refered to as a sovereign, i dont think that is the case. Sure it looks sortof like one, but it is also pretty different and it sports a NX hull # (NX-91001 to be exact) which would make it a NEW EXPERIMENTAL SHIP CLASS
but hey i could be wrong

More than likely you're right, but NX doesn't guarantee a new class. I'm inclined to agree with you, though. However, I also believe that this ship, while not a Sovereign, is cleared intended to be the next model, if you will, of that general design. Much like the Saladin/Ptolemy classes evolved into the Polaris class, which evolved into the Miranda/Soyuz classes.

yes, i also think it is a "reletive" or evolution step in design, but not a sovereign.
BTW your link doent work, hot linking not allowed on that site i guess.

Well, you be wrong, since Cryptic has also said we cna choose any registry designation for our ships, from NCC, to NX, to even a few of the other less known ones. Finally, it's not a roll bar, where are you people getting roll bar from? The Reliant from Star Trek II had a roll bar, the Nebula class has a roll bar, that is not a roll bar on that Sovereign.
Anyways, back to the point, Cryptic is about customization and we wil be able to customize our ships howver we like, within certain package parameters and probably based on other things like components we have for the ship and such.

I like what i've seen so far. if it's all a part of customization then I want as much as is humanly possible. and it's looking like we'll be able to do quite a bit within the confines of having it look like a starfleet vessel.
course if there's no customization and that's just how those ships look, then i'm not excited at all. The OP might not think this customization will ensure the games success, but for me atleast, it will.
and seven, that website doesn't like linkies :)

Sorry, just go here and click on the image on the left with all of the little ships.

Look around where the Constitution and Excelsior are. You'll see all the ships I was talking about. They all evolved around that low-slung nacelle type design.

That one details crazy crap about the concept art for that one magazine. Basically lots of extra details. Too many if you ask me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/PlayBoxCube/stoexample2.jpg
For the REAL screenshots even though we've only seen a few ships they don't seem to be going so far as that crazy concept art but there's still some crazy things. What the crap is with those green things?
Still, not too bad. It just feels like Star Trek over exaggerated or to the extreme. Imagine seeing a normal car with 10 spoilers, random indents and protrusions, random flashing lights everywhere and you've got a crazy weird car. They seem to be doing that a bit to this game. :P

Obviously you haven't been driving much lately then  Furthermore, you obviously don't watch much Star Trek if you don't know a Centaur class when you see one, or the simple fact that as the palyer, you can design your ship as you see fit.

"If the ship is a rockin' don't bother knockin'"
My ship is gonna be one giant nacelle with one forward saucer section and two twin aft saucers side by side! :D
But seriously, players are gonna want some modifications to pimp their ride. As long as they are visibly Klingon or Fed a rollbar here or there won't bother me much and I think that's something the devs are striving for.

Here's a pic of some views of the Centaur-class starship. (http://www.shipschematics.net/startrek/images/federation/frigate_centaur.jpg) If you look at the side views, you can see that those domes are there, they are just white in the pic (but the nacelles are all white too and not glowing blue like usual).
I wonder if we'll be able to create this ship (http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm184/deyvid_mmo/STO/freedom_new01.jpg)...

you need to post a pic for those who dont know what the ship looks like or compare it to the ship you mentioned, like me

For one of course I know it's Centaur-class. Two the circle things are waaay more dominant in the screenshot, more circular and... green :O. Oh and they're not even actually there white or not. You're reading the schematic wrong. Instead there are these box rectangle things with somewhat different placement.

That's from the TV show on the one episode the Centaur-class appears in. Sure, this is in 2409 but I still don't like the green bubbles. XP

I kinda dig that ship design.
My only fear is that with too much customization we might see the USS Cokkasaurus or the IKV D'Ldo.

I know if ship customization will be as expansive and awesome as I hope it'll be (for the sake of my own designs), there'll be **** even stupider than, for example, the USS Raging Queen (http://www.st-minutiae.com/academy/engineering102A/fleet_starfleet.png), near the bottom.
One of the reasons I barely ever play Spore anymore. People's ship designs suck.

acutally that same ship is still sporting the NX-91001 in the gameplay trailer ..... it comes in from the bottom of the screen and if you pause it just right you can still make out the same hull#

since this conversation seems to be heading there ...........
i along with many others on these forums are pretty sure you will ONLY be able to change you ship to a limited degree (you cant make a galaxy out od a defiant no matter how many parts you have access to)
also we will not be building ships from the keel up as it were, but modifing an existing ship from a "parts bin"
for those who still kling to the hope of "building" thier own ship ypu should read this (http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/design.htm)

Are you people blind? Of course it's the same ship but it's still got tons of differences in the details. They didn't stick completely to the concept art.
