Ok, first of all, I want to say I was a trekkie wayy before being an anime and other superhero fanboy, and my family loves star trek, which brings me to my first question. my mom is not a huge fan of combat but loves star trek. She may not be much of a fangirl, (she doesn't know who Khan is o.O probably forgot...) but I wanted her to play just a single MMO and I was hoping this would be the one...however, if there is any chance that she will be forced into combat of any sort (except maybe like blasting a box or security lock like on the tutorial of swg) I fear she may not like this game. Is there any way for her to avoid combat altogether?
Nextly, I wish to know if the founders/changelings such as Odo will be in this game, they are one of my fave species next to klingons, vulcans, and ferengi (gotta love Quark).
With regards, Mattwo

I think you have to fight. You can probably avoid SOME combat but when a big, bad Borg Cube is heading for you, its going to be hard waving the white flag of surrender. Also, if she's a big Star Trek fan she'd know who Khan is. If she really doesn't, I'd recommend you sitting down with her and watching Star Trek II. =)
Dominion will be in the game but not playable.

I love getting family members to play. The more the merrier as they say. I don't know if anyone has enough information save the devs to answer your questions but I'll give you something to ponder. It has been stated that the game will be mission (quest) driven, and that missions will play out like episodes of Star Trek. So what I would do if I were you, and you may even get ma to participate is this:
Choose an episode of Star Trek to watch. Determine which character that paticular episode caters to. Then become that character. Lets say you choose an episode of TNG and the episode largely revolves around Data. Then in your mind become Data, and with every scene, imagine having to talk to everyone Data talks to and interact with objects just as Data does, etc etc etc. By the end of the mission you will have played out an episode of Star Trek and might even get a warm fuzzy feeling deep inside from the message you got out of it.
If in that episode of ST Data encountered combat of some sort, then I presume your mother would encounter the same type of combat had she been playing a mission exactly like that episode you watched.
Some missions will have combat, some will not, just as episodes of Star Trek. Now there will be other areas of the game that is more combat oriented all the time I'm sure. But all of this is speculation on my part.

Perhaps mom might enjoy pursuing a medical officer career path. She may find herself in a combat situation but she could use her expertise to heal rather than kill. ;)

I have to correct my self: I just asked her today if she rembered Khan, and she said ooh(khan's actor's name here) and further said it was her least favorite of the movies with 1st contact and "the one with the whales" being her favorites lol

I think that the game will be more combat-oriented than many of the television series and movies, but assuming a strong roleplaying community develops in the game I could definitely see the possibility of a player choosing to partake mostly in exploration and other social aspects of the game.
