what does everyone should be the role of nebulas? would they inhibit warp drive, shut down weapons and shields, cause damage to the ship, kill off cew, all of the above?

any ideas?

all of the above. i mean, right? there are all kinds of nebs and all kinds of effects.

in fact, one nebula should come with a reliant class ship helmed by a crazy man from fantasy island screaming 'he tasks me! he tasks me!"

i agree. and when he says something that agitates you, there should be a button to push that makes everyone in the sector hear the roar of capt. kirk's voice yelling "KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!" with a nifty screen effect and echoes :-D

Different Nebula would do different things.

Some would just stop shields from working.
Some would just stop sensors from working.
Pretty much all would stop warp.
Some would damage your ship slowly.
Some would damage your ship fast.
Some would slow your movement.
etc etc etc.

Different Nebula would do different things and some would do more than one thing and some just one while others basically nothing.

now how would you justify random nebulas though. i don't think nebuals are everywhere, nor should they be. Most nebulas in RL are many LY's long and wide, just massive clouds of ions, particles, and gravity. so, maybe a federation border could be a nebula. makes you think twice about going into that guy on the other sides territory, lol

I think there should be a nebula type that makes your communications stop working (like in nemesis). it could be strategic

Actually in space nebula are quite common. There would easily be like thousands in Federation territory. And I'm sure Nebula have different properties.

DO NOT MAKE THE FEDERATION BORDER A NEBULA! For one no Nebula is freakin' that huge. Seriously don't recommend stuff unless you know SOMETHING about space crap.

kirby doesn't sound like that.

see, i could have done the cliche khaaaaan joke, but i'm above that. ;)

I think that it would be interesting if there were many types of nebulae in the game, but as a strategy option it would be neat if most of them looked the same but players had to scan them to determine which specific type of nebula they are encountering.

It's fully possible to have nebulae (or "space clouds") comprised of various elements that would affect ships in differing ways, and could appear in differing colors, depending on whether the nebula is comprised of helium, neon, xenon, argon, or some other elements or particles that only exist in other quadrants other than the alpha quadrant.

It's a staple of Star Trek to be able to "hide" in a nebula or gas cloud, since the enemy's sensors either wouldn't be able to penetrate the nebula, or it would be "confused" and inconclusive. It's also been seen that some of the various nebula or "space clouds" could be comprised of highly combustible materials preventing the ships from engaging warp engines, etc.

I think there should be "static" nebula and "anomalies" that are always found in the specific coordinates, as well as some that drift or move or form-then-dissipate.

Perhaps there could be a mission or sub-mission to "clean" or dissolve a gas cloud by emitting a second element into it that causes a chemical or physical reaction and removes it over time.

whoa pikirby, relax. i ment like with maybe one neighbor, or a large nebula as part of the overall border, omg, don't kill me *tears up*
