What kind of hardware you suppose is gonna be required for this game. Can it be played on a laptop?
Can you list specs

Q: What are the system requirements?
A: We haven't finalized this yet. Suffice to say, we want to make a game that looks great and can run well on a wide variety of systems.

laptops can easily play most games if you have the hardware, i have a 1.8 ghz processor a gig of ram and a huge hard drive so i can play on my laptop. just depends on if its new. obviously an MMO is going to make itself accessable to as many as it can

A 1.8Ghz laptop processor may not be enough for STO. Lord of the Rings Online recommended processor speed was 2.8Ghz.
Is Lord of the Rings Online a good comparison? I suppose the best one would be Champions Online.

just guessing based on trends, by the time this game comes out I would say base specs would be around a 2.0-2.2 processor, a gig (possibly 2 considering it will be vista compatible) of RAM, and a GeForce 7000 series or higher video card for it to be playable. The processor reqs may be a little high so i might be off but that seems to be about the average for most games currently releasing.

I would bet the game will run on most mid range systems and above. Most mmos go this route to be able to pull in more players, and the lesson learned with AoC that uber graphics and MMOS = BAD.:p

When I seen CO at GenCon, It looked like something that would choke an old laptop. Also, have you gamed on a gaming laptop? Better plug it in, or it's battery wont make it through the level...
Remember this game will have to compete with other current MMO games in graphics and features, which limits scalability..
I would guess a Dual Core and a currently common newer gaming card level computer would run it good. The video driver/minimal gaming power and propietary nature of basic laptops make it not a good choice. However, an expensive one with some gaming/media features would work.
Again the 1.8 machine mentioned would probably choke on any newly released MMO.
As far as specs go... what do you have, cause new gaming parts for desktops are very cheap, unless you prefer to throw money at your rig.

LOL - should I even respond to this?
There will be no released specs for a long time....

I would think it is like COH
one word of warning though, if you have a laptop, you will prob. need
and upgraded video card and not the regular built in one.
I do my gaming on a laptop.. including lord of the rings online. If we take that as an example I can say it will run fine.. but then it does depend on specs.
If you run something close to 8600m GT +, couple of gigs of ram, and dual core at or above 2.2 to 2.66ghz. it will be perfect. I can run lotro top details (dx9.. im still not won over by vista :P). When tried at dx10 performance does suffer so we'll wait and see as to what sto will be.
Another thing to remember is any system will play a game fine. But if you want it to look pretty you may need to consider upgrades etc. If you post your system specs we may be able to give you a general idea. :)

true..
I played far cry 2, it asked me to update my graphic card but I had no time doing it, so I just started the game and it was perfect quality even without needing to update my graphic card for it! I know it will ask me but I just ignore the notice and continue the game. Fanito
