View Full Version : How many hours will you devote to this game?

For me, I say about 3 to 4 hours a day, and on the weekends, most of the day...Since I have a job, I have to break it down like that. But, if this game rocks, I might not be getting that much sleep during the week...:(

If the game is good, I may quit playing WoW altogether, if I haven't already by then... That would free up 2-5 hours/day right there, and more on the weekends. However, there are a lot of new MMOs coming out in 2009, so we'll see what happens.

(Though I may give up WoW, I'll never give up Guild Wars. I'm hoping STO is that good...)

I'll be putting in a full 26 hour day. :D It's a bit hard to predict precisely my game time a year in advance, but probably 2 or 3 hours at a time, 3 or 4 times over a week. I'll be splitting MMO time between this, Champions and it's Distinguished Competition.

Since in any game the PvE content can usually be burned through fairly quickly, I imagine how much time I spend per day will end up depending on how well the PvP is set up. If the faction vs faction conflict is nurtured and supported then it'll be a lot. If it's just faction vs faction in name only and the PvP is just mindless killing for the sake of killing then it won't be much I imagine.

If they do th esame job they did with City of Heroes then I will be on this game for at least 200 hours. About 20 to 30 a week.

I'm telling from a PvE perspective City of Heroes was extremely innovative and refreshing. I spent hours on the character creation alone.

The rest of my life! I dont know if that makes me sad, or an uber geek?!

As many hours as possible is probably the correct answer. ;)

Yeah pretty much. If the game is awesome. Then untold amounts of time will be sunk in.

Probably 1-2 hours per session, and about 2-3 sessions per week most likely.

I couldn't agree with you more there. I think cryptic is aware of that though (at least I would hope) and I'm sure that they have some actual depth planned for PvP. The nature of the STO universe presents a lot of potential discrete objectives like planets and stations that various fleets will be able to fight for control over so if Cryptic does it right, the world PvP alone in this game could be absolutely stellar.

Hmmmm...depends on the serious crack-factor of the game...could be 2 to 4 hours or could be time to go on disability so i can play 18 hours a day. Ill just have to wait and see :-) hehehehe

I'll be putting in 0 hours until release.

after that it's a mind boggling decision of how many hours. I still have yet to taste the game nor have gained any knowledge of how the game will play. I may not like how it's been developed, I may not like the game play. I may not like the players who play in it.

It's all relative to what the game is like at release.

The amount of time I devote to Star Trek Online will really depend on the game itself and how much can actually be done; that being said, based on the information that has been released about the game so far it certainly seems like I will be playing this game a lot more than I even want to think about right now!

About 6 hours a day week days and 12 weekends, for the first few months atleast.

It really depends on my work schedule, I would probably seeing 1-4 hours a day during the week. I can see all if not most the day on the weekends. I am t******* down my SOE station pass to just an EQ subscription but can't see putting that one away since I have so much invested but considering how the game aggrivates me it may go away.

5-6 hours a day during the week, 12+ a day during the weekend.

I usually devote about 3-4 hours a day to online gaming, 6-8 hours on my days off from work. I wish I had more time available, but RL demands eat up a lot of the 24 hour day.

Lol (my favorite reply in this thread)....probably spend too much time in it myself. Especially if it is good.

I'm thinking of having a child and training them to mine for me when I can't be around. They'll learn economics, so it's a good thing.

Since I'm a studnet I have a fairly large amount of time on my hand. I'm pretty sure that I will be playing the game extensively for the first few days - weeks. But beeing a student and wanting a degree at some point I'll have to revert back to an academical style of life and cut down on playing time. I'd say an average of 15-20 hours a week during term schould be enough. Maybe a bit mor if I can sneak out o few hour during the weekend. :) ;)

It depends on alot really. Work, family duties, educational courses, committes and freinds...
I'd live in that universe given a chance, but I'd have to say, if the game was very good I'd squeeze as much as I could to be on it.
At the moment 2-3 hours nightime, 8hrs+ over the weekend. When the game acually comes out maybe more.

It also depends on the game itself, like graphics and CSs' style of play as in exploration, travel and status build up. Lets face it, we're building up this MMO in the way we see it and want to play it or how it should be.
If its not to our exspectation, what then...

I am looking to spend a good 3-4 hrs during the work week and a good chunk of my weekend if all goes well. So I guess somewhere around the average of 30hrs a week.

Going by my previous MMOs, I'll spend pretty much all the first week playing whenever awake, then it'll slow to about an hours PvE weekdays, more at the weekend.

If the game turns out very good, I'll probably lock in a good 4-5 hours a day. Not every day but probably 3-5 days per week. Other days I might only get in an hour or two, if any.

I will knock the earth out of orbit and slow it's rotation to make the year longer and the day longer just to play it 25/7/393. I will call this new month STObemberary (between november and december) and the new day STOturday (between saturday and sunday). This will be a month long celebration of al things Star Trek, especialy STO, and will allow parentes more time to save up cash to buy thier kiddies Star Trek memerabilia like Tickle-me-scotties, the Borg-box1001101010101102, My Little Androids, and this year's hottest seller, Picard-e-mon.

Don't forget the hot release Tribees!!

Depends on how good it is, as far as hours spent. Also, depends on if they do release it for a either the PS3 or 360. I can play a game way longer, sitting in the comfort of my easy chair on a nice big television, blue tooth headset, and a nice wireless dualshock 3 in my hands with a chatpad qwerty keyboard attached, versus hunched at my computer desk and my 21 inch monitor.

this is a difficult one. Ideally, I would live on this game. Sadly, I need to eat and go to the bathroom and earn money and such, so I am estimating that I will only be able to play 2-3 hours max a day.

The_Vulcan_Kid

As many hours as I can. Unfortunately, I have to eat, got to school, and require a minimum of four hours of sleep, but I'll probably play whenever I get the chance.:D

If it is good... too much, if it bombs, not at all... equated to hours... 80 on the high side (I don't sleep much) 0 on the low end. If I or a friend Beta test and see that the game is going to be solid at launch I will take a week off from work to get my STO Launch fix!!! Even if the first day will be spent fighting the download/patch/load wars with the half a million other players!!! That's the special code I want, the pre-launch character and ship creation code, so why everyone else has the log on, how do I want to create my future, woes, I will be exploring... huh devs? Any chance at it, think about it, it's not a horrible idea.

If they make me buy a new computer... God knows.
