This sounds like an awesome feature but, at the same time, I wonder about it's implementation. It would seem likely to me that a large number of people will create their own races, leaving the usual inhabitants of Federation and Klingon controlled space outnumbered by these strange aliens which we've never seen before. A minor annoyance, I suppose, but still a concern.
I assume homeworlds will not be a concern because probably only a small portion of the known galaxy will be open for exploring (Cardassian, Romulan, Ferengi, etc. space will probably be off limits to a large degree beyond the neutral zone for use in future expansions), and because Starfleet Academy and the Klingon equivalent will probably be the initial training ground for new recruits who will make their homes on ships instead of in home cities or on home worlds.
That said, will people be able to create Cardassians, Romulans, Ferengi, Breen, Vorta, Kazon, etc... or even Borg or other cyborgs? If so, how will that effect future expansions? And how can we reconcile a purple human looking character being the captain of a Klingon ship?
I trust Cryptic to make the right decisions, I'm just a little concerned.
Thoughts?

I have a feeling taking a packaged race will give you a 'synergy' bonus you won't be able to duplicate in a fabricated race.

My thoughts...
Creativity is a golden aspect of any MMO, I believe the templates in CS's design may limit the users requirements. The creation of a new race would involve loads of people designing their avators akin.
Indivual avators who stand out could easily be classed a one race which wasn't shown on the episodes.
Some people like be different, so I'd imagine there to be so many different looks within one faction, ie Federation., allowing reflection of the cultural diversaty.
I will be typically Klingon, not that I lack the imagination, I just favour that specie within that Sci-Fi universe.
I'd try to fuse the klingon look with my facial features.
The expansion of a new race I'd think that would be catered for, assuming that look took off and became a popular specie. Allowing CS to invest on the creation of that template design.
Hope this is understandable...

I just want a hologram to be able to serve as one of my bridge crew. With a reverse engineered mobile emitter of course.

So half the episodes of TNG didn't convince you that holograms and holodecks are the primary threat to the safe operation of a starfaring vessel?

Yes but more of the Voyager and DS9 episodes convinced me other wise. See back in TNG the Holo-thingy was still new and in close proximity to a certain "Crusher", who I will not elaborate more on.

How about this, some people would prefer making their own Race creation but some people would prefer in game that race is already been done for all of us.
So we should already concentrate of a race that you want to make before the game releases!

"Captain, we're dropping out of warp! Power is being re-routed to Holodeck 2 from inside. I can't reverse it. My god... it's Professor Moriarty... again! And he's taken control of the ship from inside the Holodeck... again!"
I fully expect a similar mission to take place in this game.
Playable holograms... interesting. But if portable holographic emittors (emitters?... whatever) are made to be common, what will than mean for the Star Trek universe? Just imagine the legal difficulties of deciding at which point a program becomes sentient. My holodeck programs would never be the same.

Why do I get the feeling, we will see a ton of Alf type aliens running around in Starfleet? :D
