I wonder if we get to generate our ship names or is it a random name generator.

Cryptic has said we will get to name our ships, but im sure their will be a random name generator to use as well.;)

I am certain this has been brought up on the forums before, and I also remember it being in the Game Informer magazine article about STO.

From Game Informer page 55, October 2008

"Each class of ship across both factions has a huge array of customizable options to make the ship your own [...] Change the color markings on your ship to match your fleet, Name your ship, and have its title emblazoned across the hull."

So yes you will be able to name your ship, however my concern is the stupid ships names that will be out there. I really dont want to see the USS IRPwndJ00... I also think it would be cool if on your Klingon ships you named first in English and then it gave you a Klingon translation of the word and you could choose to display either. So like if you put in Insurrection you could have the option of either IKS Insurrection or IKS QuD, or have one or the other in parenthesis.
